Florence Fennel

This tender perennial is native to the Mediterranean is a member of the carrot family, and is called Finnocchio in Italian. Plants grow to 3′ tall, and have soft feathery leaves similar to dill. Highly aromatic and very flavorful, with a taste similar to anise, with a mild licorice flavor. Used medicinally and as a culinary herb. Celery-like stalks form large bulb at the base of the stem.
