Swamp Azalea (Azalea viscosum)

Azalea viscosum is a deciduous shrub native to the eastern United States. Grows well in moist, well-drained soils, and is also salt tolerant. A later blooming Azalea, the white blossoms are very fragrant, so place somewhere you can enjoy the scent. Great fall foliage turning a striking orange and maroon before dropping for the season. These lovely shrubs look terrific in a mixed border or in foundation plantings. Grows in full sun or shade. Gardeners with heavy clay soil should plant Rhododendrons so the top of the root ball stands several inches above the surrounding soil, then push prepared soil around the exposed root ball to form a mound. Mulch after planting to keep roots cool and moist.
