Viburnum trilobum ‘Wentworth'
Wentworth Cranberry is an outstanding native with multi-season interest. In late spring, it produces lovely heads of white florets, followed by clusters of drooping yellow-red berries that turn a brilliant bright red as they ripen in late summer and fall, as the maple-leaf foliage takes on stunning shades of burgundy. Viburnums prefer rich, moist, well-drained soil, and generally flower and fruit best in full sun, but are also quite adaptable to part-shade. Viburnums are a versatile genus of multi-stemmed shrubs that are well suited to the home landscape due to their range of sizes and cultural adaptability. 'Wentworth' has an upright habit that makes it useful as a screen or an informal hedge. The true cranberry that is grown commercially for food (Vaccinium macrocarpon) is a non-related member of the heath family.
