Perennial Easy to grow vine native to the eastern US, it has a long history of use by Native Americans and early settlers for medicinal and culinary purposes. Stunning three-inch wide, fragrant creamy lavender flowers appear throughout the summer. Growing as far north as Illinois, Indiana, Ohio. The round fruit 'may pop' when you step on them giving this beautiful native its name. Fruits are used for jams, jellies, desserts, and is a favorite in drinks, with a slightly sweet-tart taste and a pleasant scent when fully ripe. Can reach 15-18’ each year then dies back. Can climb along a fence, trellis, or any other support with its strong tendrils.
