A perennial herb native to the Balkan Peninsula. Rue is a classic herb dating back thousands of years and was mentioned in the New Testament. Used primarily as an ornamental plant for its blueish leaves, it is also cultivated for medicinal purposes. It has culinary uses, and was used extensively throughout history, however it is not available in grocery stores or used by many chefs today. Plants grow to 2′ tall and are great for containers.
